What is Vision Zero?

Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. First implemented in Sweden in the 1990s, Vision Zero has proved successful across Europe — and now it’s gaining momentum in major American cities.
Vision Zero starts with the belief that no loss of life is acceptable and that all traffic fatalities and severe injuries are preventable.
The Dallas City Council adopted the Vision Zero Resolution in December 2019 and approved an Action Plan on June 8, 2022. The Action Plan commits the City to a goal of zero traffic fatalities and a 50 percent reduction in serious injuries by 2030. Explore the dashboard here.
The Vision Zero dashboard opens on the default filter option “All Modes of Transportation”. The dashboard also has options to filter down to view Motorist, Pedestrian, Motorcyclist, Bicyclist, as well as other modes of transportation via the radio button on the top left of the dashboard. Check out the information button for definitions of these transportation types.

What can you do to help you and your loved ones get home safely?

Wear a seatbelt!
2% of all crashes involve motorists who do not wear a seat belt. When you don’t wear a seat belt, you increase your chance of death from less than 1% to over 10%!
